Norwegian Cruise Line just threw a major celebration in Miami to welcome the newest star of its fleet — the Norwegian Aqua — and the buzz doesn’t stop there! At the christening event, NCL also announced exciting updates coming to its private island, Great Stirrup Cay, with all-new experiences launching in late 2025. Think: a massive new pool, a splash zone for kids, a swim-up bar, and so much more.
If you love cruising with flexibility, family fun, and plenty of chances to relax, you’re going to want to hear all about this.
The christening ceremony took place at NCL’s LEED® Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami, where the gorgeous new ship was officially blessed in true maritime tradition. On hand to help celebrate? None other than Eric Stonestreet — two-time Emmy® Award-winning actor and proud godfather of the Norwegian Aqua.
The event wasn’t just about speeches and ceremonies. Guests were treated to an exclusive preview of "Revolution: A Celebration of Prince," NCL’s brand-new in-house theatrical concert experience. Safe to say: this wasn’t your average cruise ship naming ceremony!

As if welcoming a new ship wasn’t exciting enough, NCL also shared some seriously fun updates about Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas — and one of its most-loved destinations.
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming in late 2025:
Oversized heated pool with tons of space to lounge
Kid-friendly splash zone with water fountains and interactive features
Swim-up bar so the party doesn’t stop when you leave the ship
New welcome center and tram service to make getting around easier
Vibe Beach Club coming to the island! This adult-only escape will include private cabanas, comfy loungers, and premium vibes
Horizon Park – A chill space with lawn-style games, perfect for the whole family
Relaxation zone with hammocks and Tiki-inspired touches for a true island escape
And that’s just the beginning — NCL says there’s MORE to come to give cruisers of all ages even better ways to vacation.

“It’s a really special moment for us,” said NCL President David J. Herrera. “We’re not only introducing our newest and most action-packed ship, Norwegian Aqua, but also unveiling amazing new experiences coming to Great Stirrup Cay. And we’re doing it with Eric Stonestreet — a fantastic addition to the NCL family.” Eric added, “As someone newer to cruising, I’m blown away by all the fun things to do onboard, including the world’s first hybrid roller coaster and waterslide — the Aqua Slidecoaster! I’m honored to be godfather of this incredible ship, and I can’t wait to create memories with my own family.”
